The MEI Foundation conducted an awareness talk on May 26th, 2024 for students entering their A'Level examination in the Puttalam district.
The talk was held at the Puttalam Royal Academy of Science which is run by the Director Dr. Hifraz Inayathullah.
The talk, entitled: ” Beyond the Books : Mental & Physical Prep for Exam Excellence,” was delivered by our very own medical coordinator- Mohamed Juraij Mohamed Nawshad. In contrast to the usual exam prep advice, this talk focused on a seldom touched topic - the effect that high stake situations like exams can have on one's health.
Through an engaging presentation, Juraij addressed the importance of students taking care of their mental and physical health, especially during this pivotal studying era of their lives. Interesting tips for stress busting, nutritional advice, and sleep hygiene were emphasized on. Other pathological causes of fatigue that are common amongst adolescent and adult age groups were also introduced to the students and advised on when to seek help.
From a mental health perspective, students were encouraged to uphold positivity and to never feel restricted to reach out for help. At least a hundred students were in attendance of the talk and also shared that they greatly benefitted from the information delivered.
We urge our community members to pay heed to the wellness and well-being of children at their home, especially during stressful times like exams. For more information and guidance pls refer to the pdf of the presentation that we are sharing here for educational purposes.
Through this talk we hoped to fulfill the motivational component that is a part and parcel of our name. We hope to touch base on more topics like these that bring meaningful conversations to light across different regions in Sri Lanka, whether it be in the form of in-person talks, webinars, or online blogs. Stay tuned for more from us!
