A Health Awareness campaign was held by the MEI Foundation at the Sri Lankan International School in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in early October 2022.
The booth showcased 5 major topics:
Health screening recommendations,
Healthy lifestyle and food habits + wait to hip ratio measurement with risk stratification,
Women’s health,
Important medical emergencies,
Free glucose and blood pressure checkup
Medical students and interns volunteered at the one day event and it proved to be very beneficial to the local Sri Lankan community. Visitors who were detected with high blood glucose or blood pressure readings were then advised to make a visit to the doctor's office on an outpatient basis and seek further medical help.
Medical emergencies were to the liking of senior high school students who were educated on how to identify the clinical presentation of stroke, seizure, myocardial infarction etc. and know when to call emergency responders.
Giving back to the community need not only be in terms of wealth, but also in terms of your good will and time. These words could not be more true than the evident success accomplished through this health awareness campaign.
